Ex- New York Times Columnist to Lead CBS Following Paramount Deal

Paramount has selected ex- NYT commentator Bari Weiss to direct CBS News, marking the most recent initiative by current leadership to restructure operations of one of America's leading news networks.

Paramount is additionally acquiring The Free Press, the online publication Weiss founded after her acrimonious separation from the New York Times, in a arrangement estimated to be worth $150 million.

Ms Weiss, who has challenged television news for becoming too partisan, said she was excited to shape CBS, which was acquired by David Ellison recently as part of a wider merger with Paramount.
