In the episode, a flashback discloses that popular personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his human life. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he established communication with the afterlife in advance to secure a powerful role there. The charismatic leader, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Condemned Soul in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This raises an important query: In what way is Rosie powerful enough to raise Alastor above all other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the first stepping stone in a much bigger story that involves a great deal, leading into the third season,” the showrunner explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The solution could be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The studios have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner frequently notes that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Nevertheless, she says holding off on specific information is a crucial aspect of keeping season 2’s attention where it belongs.

“The challenge of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is giving the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that gradually, and allowing that be satisfying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Mysteries Resolved in Season 3

The creator assures that season 3 will address the queries fans have been posing, like why Rosie commanded Alastor to disappear for seven years, which weakened his power in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these individuals are making, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she says.

Meanwhile, the origin story episode provides another glimpse into how the core cast of Demonic Sinners looked like as mortals, the second after seeing another character's historical mortal appearance in the second episode. She says that significant consideration went into these character designs.

“The human versions of the characters hold great significance,” she notes. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their demon form to looking almost identical. With Pentious, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between choosing a design that represents the personality, as opposed to going with something that's historically correct. We opted for creating something that just felt like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one typically had extended hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the silhouette is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We kind of gave the excuse that he lived in seclusion, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we design the mortal forms of these characters […] it is a very enjoyable process to explore and determine. I am looking forward for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
